ABOUT FOLDERS AND DIRECTORIES

The instructions below refer to the Vox Proxy application folder and folders within it.

The default application directory is:
Drive:\program files\vox proxy

Other folders within the application directory where you may need to save downloaded files include:
Macros: \program files\vox proxy\macros
Presentations: \program files\vox proxy\presentations
Speech: \program files\vox proxy\speech

—CDPrep enhancements: Automatic detection of PowerPoint linked files. This major enhancement finds links to files inserted directly into PowerPoint slides, converts these links to relative links, and includes the source files in the CD Image folder. Common linked files include music in other than wav format; movies; and linked pictures.

—Variable window sizes in PlayMedia wizard. Previously, you were limited to fixed windows sizes such as 1X, 2X, 1/4-screen, 1/2-screen, etc. Now when you click "Drag on slide", you can arbitrarily resize the movie form.

—Player update that displays a progress bar while preparing to open and start a presentation on a CD prepared with CD Prep.

—Minor bug fixes

This program is required only for use with PowerPoint 2002 (delivered with Office XP) or 2003 running on Windows 95, 98, or ME. With this configuration, you start Vox Proxy by clicking on Windows Start/Programs/Vox Proxy/Vox Proxy Menu.

This version fixes a bug which caused the menu not to appear on Version 2 systems.

Users running on Windows NT, 2000, or XP do NOT need this program. With these versions of Windows and PowerPoint 2000 or newer, Vox Proxy always starts as an add-in on the PowerPoint menu.

TUTORIALS

These files are self-narrated PowerPoint presentations. Files with (*) are included with Vox Proxy. Check dates to determine if you may need an update.

Each of these files is a presentation and should be saved to the folder:
\program files\Vox Proxy\Presentations

Overlay the old file of the same name if it exists.

After downloading and installing, they will automatically appear on the Tutorials menu. They also may be run directly from PowerPoint as a slide show.

If you start PowerPoint and turn Vox Proxy's Run Mode ON before clicking on the link below, the presentation will run automatically as soon as it's downloaded.

MACROS

These files are Vox Proxy macros. All of them should be downloaded into the macros folder. After downloading, they will automatically appear on the Macros menu. They may also be run directly from Windows Explorer.

Check back later for macro updates.

TTS ENGINES

These files are Lernout & Hauspie TTS3000 Text-To-Speech Engines supplied by Microsoft. If you installed Vox Proxy from its CD, these files are already saved to your disk.

If you downloaded Vox Proxy (either the Eval software or the Purchased Download version), you must download any of these speech engines which you would like to use.

For each language except British English, be sure to download and install both the TTS Engine and the Language Component file. The Normalization documentation contains information about the pronunciation of abbreviations, numbers, and addresses.

Additional languages are available from the Microsoft agent download page.

Each of these files should be executed to install it and saved to the folder:
