Tom Atkins, owner of Right Seat Software Inc. in Golden, Colorado, began developing Vox Proxy in late 1998. It is the first add-in for Microsoft's PowerPoint® that features 3D talking animated characters. The software uses Microsoft Agent technology, which allows programming control of talking animated characters; Vox Proxy integrates Agents with PowerPoint using Microsoft's ActiveX® inter-application software technology. In business for 25 years, Right Seat Software, doing business as Creative APLications, Inc., has long been a provider of specialized software for the oil and gas industry. Tom is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a Masters degree in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. One of the things that makes Right Seat Software unique is the APL programming language it uses. APL is a highly productive language first developed for mainframe computers at IBM in the mid-1960's. Tom likes to call it "IBM's best-kept secret". APL is characterized by compact, symbolic code and an efficient interpreter. RSS uses a version for Windows PCs called APL+WIN from APL2000, Inc. The Right Seat in our company name comes from aviation terminology. An airplane's captain always sits in the LEFT seat. The co-pilot sits in the RIGHT seat. So at Right Seat Software, the customer is always LEFT! |
